Luke 20:45-47, While all the people were listening Jesus said to the disciples, 'Beware of the scribes who like to walk about in long robes and love to be greeted obsequiously in the market squares, to take the front seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at the banquets, who swallow the property of widows, while making a show of lengthy prayers. The more severe will be the sentence they receive.'
It's not right for anyone to draw attention to themselves in order to be in the spotlight. Anyone who does this has a severe problem with their pride and are totally insecure about themselves. To try and show people that you are so Holy or that you deserve to be put on a pedestal is something that God does not tolerate.
No one is better than the next person. No one is holier than another. We must not think this or we will be put in our place. No one needs to notice the good deeds we do or we need not tell another what we have done.
As Jesus states in Matthew 23:27,28, 'Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You who are like whitewashed tombs that look handsome on the outside, but inside are full of dead men's bones and every kind of corruption. In the same way you appear to people from the outside like good honest men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.'
God sees all that men do in their life. We need to do our good deeds and prayers in secrecy. It doesn't matter what others may think about you, what matters is how God sees you. Does He see you as a prideful, hypocrite or as a righteous, upstanding person?
Pride Feeds The Flesh While Humility Feeds The Soul
