Icons Are Graven Images Podcast
Refrain From Creating Graven Images
Deuteronomy 5:7-10, “Thou shalt not have strange gods in my sight. Thou shalt not make to thyself graven images, nor the likeness of anything, that are in heaven above, or that are in the earth beneath, or that abide in the waters under the earth. Thou shalt not adore them and thou shalt not serve them. For I am the Lord thy God, a jealous God.”
Man Will Worship Anything
In our carnal state, we can easily fall victim to creating strange gods before us. These icons can come in the form of statues, paintings and other items that we adore. Some will go as far as making shrines from these items and use these things to pray to.
Man fabricates graven images such as angels, statues of saints, Jesus Christ, Mary, animals, medals and crosses to hang on the wall, hang around their neck, put them in front of builds, in churches, gardens, houses and other areas.
This is the sort of thing that God wants us to stay away from practicing. We should be focusing on God and not things fabricated by man. We look away from God and transfer our thoughts and prayers into these objects that God told us not to fabricate.
The Lord’s Prayer
When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, Jesus replied with, “Our Father who art in heaven…” Jesus did not say anything more about who to pray to, this is only part of what we call the Lord’s prayer. He never told them to pray to the saints, or His mother.
Paul only asks that we pray FOR the saints, not to them. If you are looking for guidance then you need to ask Jesus because He said that, “HE is the way, the truth and life.”
By praying to these graven images we are more or less saying that these replicas will help us better than God or Jesus can. Jesus is our guide, our way back to God, not statues, paintings, crosses, medals or any other object. It was Jesus’ blood that was shed and Hid blood is the ransom that pays for our soul.
There is nothing complicated about it, but man always seems to have to add to things that are already perfect and the outcome is always corruption.
Man just can’t seem to leave things alone, all they do is think that they can improve on what God has already perfected. That’s why the world is so messed up because man can’t stick to God’s plan.
May God Bless You
