Sabbath Day | Observe Seventh Day Rest
God Blessed the Seventh Day and Rested
Genesis 2:2-3, ‘On the seventh day God completed the work He had been doing. He rested on the seventh day after all the work He had been doing. God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on that day He had rested after all His work of creating.’
God Commanded us to Observe the Sabbath Day
Exodus 20:8-11, ‘Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy. For six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God. You shall do no work that day, neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your servants, men or women, nor your animals, nor the stranger that lives with you.
For in six days, Yahweh made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that these hold, but on the seventh day He rested; that is why Yahweh has blessed the Sabbath day and made it sacred.’
The Seventh Day Rest and Our Place of Rest Forever
Hebrews 3:7-19 & 4:1-11 (read before going on further). It’s about reaching the place of rest that God has prepared for us. He made a day of rest when He finished His work with the creation. He also wants us to share that day of rest with Him on the seventh day of the week. God has also prepared a place of rest for us when we make it home to heaven.
Unlike the Hebrews that did nothing but complain and turn away from God when they were being led to the place of rest that God had waiting for them. They never made it because of their rebellion against God. God made them wander the desert until they died off.
This is why we need to be obedient to God and keep His commandments. We have to repent and follow Jesus because He is the only way to the place of rest that has been prepared for us for eternity.
The Man That Keeps the Sabbath Will be Blessed
Isaiah 56:2, ‘Blessed be the man who does this and the son of man who clings to it; observing the Sabbath, not profaning it, and keeping his hand from every evil deed.’
Isaiah 66:23-24, ‘From New Moon to New Moon, from Sabbath to Sabbath, all mankind will come to bow down in My presence, says Yahweh. And on the way out they will see the corpses of men who have rebelled against Me. Their worm will not die nor their fire go out; they will be loathsome to all mankind.’
The Sabbath is a Sign Between God and Man
Ezekiel 20:12, ‘I even gave them my Sabbaths to be a sign between me and them, so that they might learn that I, Yahweh, am the one who sanctifies them.’
Ezekiel 20:20, ‘Keep My Sabbaths holy; let them be a sign between Me and you, so that men may learn that I am Yahweh your God.’
By keeping the seventh day Sabbath, people will see that Yahweh is your God and they may seek Him to be their God.
Honor the Sabbath for God
Ezekiel 22:26, ‘Her priests have violated My Law and desecrated My sanctuaries: they have drawn no distinction between sacred and profane, they have not taught people the difference between clean and unclean; they have turned their eyes away from my Sabbaths and I have been dishonored by them.’
The Sabbath Day was a day made and blessed by God to be a day of rest, for He rested on this day. On this day we need to reflect on the creation of God and honor Him for it in worship. Also, for us to break away from the world and all the things there of it.
It is a day that needs to be kept holy and not to be profaned. God is not asking much of us to keep one day sacred, after all, He gave us 6 days to do what we need to do. So, let’s honor God with praise and worship, believe me, you will be blessed.
Jesus is the Master of the Sabbath
Matthew 12:8, ‘For the Son of Man is master of the Sabbath.’
Jesus is the Master of the Sabbath because He knows how to observe the Sabbath in honor of the Father which we are supposed to do. We need to honor God on the Sabbath in His creation and all the glory that belonged to Him. He is giving us six days a week to do what we need to do. On the seventh day we are told to keep this day holy and not to profane it.
During the Tribulation Period
Matthew 24:20-21, ‘Pray that you will not have to escape in winter or on a Sabbath. For then there will be great distress such as, until now, since the world began, there never has been, not ever will be again.’
The Tribulation Period is going to be the worst thing that happens to man and the earth that ever has been seen or recorded since the world began. God is going to empty His wrath upon man like there has never been because of man’s disobedience to Him and his failure to repent.
Don’t let another day pass you by, Repent and ask God for forgiveness. Admit to Him that you are a sinner and that you believe in Jesus Christ. You believe that He was sent by you to die on the cross for our sins and that He was resurrected and ascended to heaven to be with the Father, God almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
Do You Know God?
1John 2:3-4, ‘We can be sure that we know God only by keeping His commandments. Anyone who says, ‘I know Him’, and does not keep His commandments is a liar, refusing to admit the truth.’
Here John tells that in order to know God we have to keep God’s commandments. In the fourth commandment it is written that we have to observe the Sabbath and keep it holy. Do not profane the Sabbath. Worship God and honor Him in His creation.
John says that ‘we are a liar if we say we know God and don’t keep His commandments’. God does not like liars, this is what He tells us is going to happen to liars: Revelation 22:15, ‘These others must stay outside (the city gates): dogs, fortune-tellers, and fornicators, and murderers, and everyone of false speech and false life.’
Why Don’t Christians Keep the Sabbath?
So why doesn’t the majority of Christians keep the Sabbath day? Is it because Paul mentions in Colossians 2:16 not to let someone decide for you whether or not to keep the Sabbath?
Paul tells us in 1Corinthians 7:19: ‘what does matter is to keep the commandments of God.’ Paul is saying in this scripture to keep all the commandments of God including the Sabbath.
Jesus Tells us the Greatest Commandment of Them All
Matthew 22:36-40, ‘Master, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?’ Jesus said, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment.
The second resembles it: You must love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets also.’
Jesus is telling us that we need to practice loving God and our neighbor as well as our enemies in order to overcome sin. With this, we will be able to Love God as our God and no other and be able to become Christ-like by the grace of God.
If we are going to love God as Jesus tells us, then we need to keep all the commandments that God gave us, including observing the seventh day Sabbath.
John Tells Us to Love
2John 1:4-6, ‘It has given me great joy to find that your children have been living the life of truth as we were commanded by the Father. I am writing now, dear lady, not to give you any new commandment, but the one which we were given at the beginning, and to plead: let us love one another.
To love is to live according to His commandments: this is the commandment which you have heard since the beginning, to live a life of love.’
To live a life of love, we become obedient to God and we believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. It is not easy overcoming our sinful nature, and pleasures, and desires of the flesh. By following Jesus and receiving the graces of God, we will live a life of love.
Jesus Warns Us
Matthew 5:17-19, ‘Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete them. I tell you solemnly, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, shall disappear from the Law until its purpose is achieved.
Therefore, the man who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be considered the least in the kingdom of heaven. But, the man who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the kingdom of heaven.
Seek the Truth in Jesus Christ
Revelation 12:17, ‘Then the dragon was enraged with the woman and went away to make war on the rest of her children, that is all who obey God’s commandments and bear witness for Jesus.’
Does Satan have to wage war on the majority of the people? Not really, because they either reject God and His Son Jesus Christ. What happens is they don’t seek the truth and go on living their life in a lie by listening to man. Also, man is very much capable of condemning himself and Satan is there to help.
There are other reasons for the majority of people to be in danger of losing their soul. They can be found if you seek the Truth. By following the Truth (Jesus Christ), we will gain knowledge, experience and understanding of the truth. Without acknowledging Jesus and believing in Him, we are lost and we will have no hope of making to heaven.
God and Jesus are there waiting for you to call on them and receive the blessings and grace that God has for you. Don’t wait before it’s too late.
Why Do We Worship God on Sunday?
Revelation 14:11-12, ‘There will be no respite, night or day, for those who worshipped the beast or its statue or accepted branding with its name. This is why there must be constancy (steadfastness, faithfulness, being constant, changelessness, stability, fixedness) in the saints who keep the commandments of God and faith in Jesus.’
Whose authority was it that moved the day of worshipping and honoring God for His creation and the day of rest for man to Sunday the first day of the week? I can’t find who did this in the bible and God didn’t tell me that He was doing this when I sought out the truth about the seventh day Sabbath.
Was it Satan that got man to move the holy day that God calls the Sabbath-the seventh day rest? Could this very well be the worshipping of the beast that is mentioned in Revelation 14:11-12? Could this be causing us to not have the seal of the Holy Spirit in our foreheads? These are questions you need to answer by seeking the truth.
I can’t see God moving the Sabbath day or find it in the bible. If it is done by man, then many people are worshipping under the wrong authority. Is this the mark of the beast?
King Nebuchadnezzar Builds a Statue of Gold
When King Nebuchadnezzar conquered Jerusalem and took the remnant of the people back to Babylon to live there, there were three faithful men named Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego that were amongst them.
Some time later, King Nebuchadnezzar had a huge statue of gold built and a decree was passed that everyone had to prostate themselves and worship the statue.
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to prostate themselves and worship the statue because they were dedicated to worshipping God and not a golden statue. The punishment for refusal of this is to be thrown into the fiery furnace.
Your Faith Will Save You
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were taken and thrown into the furnace and because of their faith, an angel was sent by God to protect them. This story is in Daniel 3:1-97.
Do you see the relationship that worship has when you accept to worship a false god or image and what happens when you worship the Almighty God, creator of all. God protects those who are faithful to Him and punishes those who are not.
Keep the Commandments and Feed From the Tree of Life
Revelation 22:14, ‘Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.’ KJV
Revelation 22:14-15, ‘Happy are those who have washed their robes clean, so that they will have the right to feed on the tree of life and can come through the gates into the city.’ JB
Does Paul Mean We Don’t Have to Observe the Seventh Day Sabbath?
Colossians 2:16, ‘From now onwards, never let anyone else decide what you should eat or drink, or whether you are to observe annual festivals, New Moons or Sabbaths.’
1Corinthians 7:19, ‘because to be circumcised or uncircumcised means nothing: what does matter is to keep the commandments of God.’
According to Paul in this scripture, we do have to observe the seventh day Sabbath in order to keep the commandments. Jesus also kept God’s commandments and He tells us to do so as well.
Jesus Kept God’s Commandments
Matthew 19:17, ‘Why do you ask Me (Jesus) about what is good? There is one alone who is good. But if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.’
John 15:10, ‘If you keep My (Jesus) commandments you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in His love.’
Pray for love and ask God to give you a new heart, and ask Him to fill it with His divine Love. Seek the Truth and it will set you free. If you are searching for true peace, you will find it in Jesus Christ. Repent if you haven’t already.
If you have any questions about keeping the Sabbath Day or any thing else that might come to mind, pray about it and ask Jesus to help you find Truth.
